Whether you are a big fan of fair rides or not, you can't deny how gorgeous these pictures are - from the twinkling lights to the sugary treats. Candy colours play a big part in this collection of inspiring images once again... most definitely a sure hit for S/S12.

T&C Inspired: Joanne Hawker
Hi loves! Hope you're all having a good weekend.
We have a new T&C inspired section where we'll be featuring some of our favourite illustrators, designers and general creative types and chatting to them about their beautiful work.
Our first is the very lovely artist, Joanne Hawker who sent us some gorgeous illustrations (the owl is a personal fave of mine, she must've known we like a bird drawing). She has such a lovely delicate and organic style to her work.
Name:
Joanne Hawker
Where are you from:
I’m from a little village in a small corner of South Somerset.
Tell us a little bit about your work:
My work tends to be quite varied as I still feel that I haven’t found my one true style yet so I like to experiment with lots of different techniques and ideas. Everything I do starts as a little biro doodle in my notebook and then I draw it neatly, ink it up, scan it in and render it digitally in Photoshop or illustrator or sometimes both! A lot of my work focuses around the natural world, as I tend to have many obsessions with woodland animals so expect to see a few foxes or owls in my work. I also have bit of thing for paper textures so they also play a huge part in the backgrounds of my creations. This year I’m going to try and experiment with being a bit more minimal as its something I find difficult. Basically, I like to try and do a bit of everything when it comes to my work!
Who, what and/or where inspires you:
As I said above the natural world plays a big part in my work, so a trip to the woods or the beach can spark off a variety of ideas. Or even the early morning cycle ride through the country lanes to work has been known to throw up a few ideas. There are a huge number of people on twitter who inspire me on a daily basis but there are too many to name so if you want to know who just read through the massive list of people I follow! :)
What’s your favourite tea:
Tea! My favourite drink! Yum! I have to have at least 3 cups minimum of PG Tips or Clipper Tea everyday. Can’t beat it! Or as a treat I love love love Whitards fruit tea. Elderflower or Summer Fruits being my favourites.

This Week, We Love...
So, as you can probably tell, this week we're seeking all kinds of Candyland inspirations for an exciting project we're collaborating on. So, in the first post of it's kind, I present - This Week, We Love. This weekly Friday spot features 10 things we're loving this week (speaks for itself, really!)
Retro sweets! Visual and taste satisfaction. Perfect!
Bright buttons! We love getting crafty here!
Balloons! I adore this photograph.
Amazing trifle by Lily Vanilli. It looks incredible. We can't imagine a better dessert!
Beautiful hot air balloon photo. Ahhh!
Amazing vintage teacup!
How cute are these wooden heart decorations in pastel colours?
We think this teacup pin cushion is incredibly sweet. Teacups and crafting? A match made in heaven!
This clothbound series, illustrated by Coralie Bickford-Smith, is very inspiring. The colours, the designs, the feel and the Penguin Classics stories compliment each other perfectly. Now to start collecting them...
Finally, we love this Letterpress print. And we concur. Bake more cake!!

Tea & Crayons Heart :: Dyed Denim Shorts
Another busy week for the Crayons! Designing and drawing (as always), but also dyeing denim (that'll be me, Kayleigh). The pictures above are amongst the many that inspired me to do so. Aren't they fab? The vibrant and exciting colours tie in nicely with last week's inspiration post, along with something top secret we are working on at T&C HQ. Keep up with the blog and all shall be revealed in good time...
I may post pics of the shorts I have dyed once they are complete. I'm waiting on some push studs to arrive to give them a funky edge. If you guys are thinking about dyeing some denim of your own then head over to youtube - there are some good videos to help get you started.

Out & About: Selfridges and It's Nice That 'Words Words Words'
Welcome to our brand new weekly feature Out & About - our round up of what's going on where - exhibitions, book reviews, competitions and general cool stuff that we find.
This week I want to highlight something I discovered last week and am really excited about; It's Nice That's window commission with Selfridges.
"To coincide with the iconic store’s Words Words Words season – a unique, multi-stranded initiative that promotes slow communication and celebrates the inspirational and creative power of words and literature – [they] have art-directed four special three-dimensional extravaganzas."
"For the showpiece corner window of Oxford Street and Orchard Street, we have collaborated with interactive designer Stewdio to create ‘The Word-A-Coaster’ a playful fortune telling machine. The 14 foot high hand-built wooden rollercoaster (constructed by model makers Atom) is surrounded by a sea of 30,000 brightly coloured balls filled with 30,000 unique fortunes that can be picked up in store for free. Inside the balls, shoppers will find a small card emblazoned with a uniquely numbered adjective, generated by a clever computer programme that leaves each individual with their own personal, playful prediction for 2012."
"To complement the corner window, we have worked with three of our favourite designers, challenging them to create a physical interpretation of the word WORDS. All three are wonderful in their own ways, from artist Ben Long’s beautifully constructed scaffold structure, to designer Chrissie Macdonald’s (above) superb oversized objects and surface designer Giles Miller’s intricate cardboard creations." (below)
They look amazing and I can't wait to get down to Selfridges to have a look for myself. I am in awe of the free rein that Selfridges allow for their windows - they are always incredibly conceptual, incredibly well thought through and always fantastic. They understand that good window design, and good VM, needs to come from a well grounded place of creativity and in this day and age, customers are just not turned on by generic placement and arrangement of products. Indeed, I feel the best windows are often the ones which feature barely any product at all - it is a strong concept and flawless production which captures shoppers imagination and draws them in to part with their all important cash. For let's not forget - it may look like art, but this is highly crafted functional design with a crucial focus; increasing revenue and profit for the retailer. How to go about this is the million pound question; Customers are getting savvier and more careful with their money; a half-arsed window scheme just won't cut it if you want to make an impression and ensure your customers have an emotional and loyal link to your brand.
It's Nice That are also putting on a series of talks at the Ultralounge in Selfridges, London, with an eclectic line-up of inspiring and darn-right interesting thinkers, writers, and designers to explore the ‘Words Words Words’ theme. Kicking off the series next month is polymath James Bridle, copywriting strategists We All Need Words, and The Guardian journalist Paul Lewis (this event is sold out). But the one I'm really looking forward to is Words as Images on the 9th February - a subject I am passionate about (being an illustrator and graphic designer in the fashion industry, it's quite crucial) with Why Not Associates, Fraser Muggeridge, and Sara Fanelli, possibly my favourite illustrator of all time. As soon as tickets go on sale I'm snapping one up - anyone fancy joining me?
